Due to their in昀氀uence on the medical student
experience, especially during the clerkship
years, the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine
graduating class honors an outstanding
resident teacher each year during the Annual
Graduation Dinner and Awards Ceremony. The
outstanding resident teacher is recognized for
exhibiting professionalism in all interactions,
being prepared and punctual, providing timely
and relevant information, communicating
expectations clearly, providing constructive
feedback regularly, acting with integrity,
serving with compassion and humility, and
striving for excellence. Honoring a RAT during
the awards ceremony has been a tradition
since the inaugural ceremony in 2021.
Despite the short history and several honorees
still completing their training, some RATs
have already gone on to become faculty and
chief residents with the Kirk Kerkorian School
of Medicine, selected to be the guest speaker
at the school’s White Coat Ceremony, or
recognized as outstanding resident teachers
on more than one occasion. Declan Feery,
MD, was honored as the outstanding resident
teacher by both the class of 2023 and 2025.

In addition to enhancing undergraduate
medical education programs, RATs programs
provide opportunities for residents to develop
stronger leadership and communication
skills that enhance their own personal and
professional development.
