A Message from
Dean Kahn
As I come upon my second anniversary of my becoming Dean at the Kirk Kerkorian
School of Medicine at UNLV, I realize how much we have done and how much there
remains to accomplish. Our mission has always been simple—to care for our community.
We accomplish our mission through excellence in education, research, clinical care, and
community engagement. We value people, and we value diversity, equity and inclusion.
Following our school receiving full accreditation, on time, from the Liaison Committee
on Medical Education, we have established chapters of both Alpha Omega Alpha, the
medical honor society, and the Gold Humanism in Medicine Society. Both of these organizations will allow us to recognize deserving students and faculty who excel in areas
important in medicine.
We continue to grow. We have had two successful matches, keeping many of our students in Nevada to care for our population. Our research dollars continue to increase as
does our philanthropic support. We expect to occupy our brand-new medical education
building this fall and we are planning for additional space to provide state-of-the-art medical care to our community and to undertake research to bring new technologies to our
community and beyond.
With the other health science schools and faculty, we have begun to develop the region’s
only academic health center, where our community can get coordinated evidence-based
care, and where, using technology including telehealth and mobile clinics, we can bring
care to the community rather than having patients come to us.
Moving forward there is still a lot to do to help our community. As you read through this
year’s magazine, I hope you take time to re昀氀ect on what we have been doing in our still
new school. We thank you for your support and look forward to making an even bigger
difference as we continue to grow.
