A Spotlight on Well-Being
An Interview with Dr. Anne Weisman, Director of Well-Being and Integrative Medicine and
Ms. Kathryn Pauli, Manager of Well-Being and Integrative Medicine
Who does the well-being program support?
The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV well-being team is dedicated to creating and
sustaining a culture of well-being for our students, residents, fellows, faculty and staff.
Why was the well-being program established?
The well-being program was created to address the high levels of burnout,
stress and anxiety in the medical 昀椀eld. Our mission: to empower members of the school of medicine community with the skills and opportunities necessary to create and maintain a healthy and holistic
lifestyle; to promote a culture with the community that encourages members to access the necessary programs to maintain
their well-being and mental health; and to foster a community of
well-being and support throughout the medical school where
self-awareness and self-care are fundamental to the training
and ongoing education of our healthcare community.
What resources or services are provided by
the well-being program?
The well-being program strives to support the nine dimensions of well-being:
•
Emotional – learning to recognize, understand and
cope with life and emotions in healthy ways.
Environmental – understanding how the environment
in which you spend your time affects your physical
and mental well-being.
•
Financial – managing your 昀椀nancial responsibilities,
making informed decisions about your 昀椀nancial future.
•
Intellectual – valuing lifelong learning through ongoing
curiosity about all there is to learn, sharing your intellectual talents with your community.
•
Occupational – engaging in work and volunteerism that
not only provides your life with purpose, but also re昀氀ects
your personal values.
•
Physical – creating a healthy and caring lifelong lifestyle for
yourself that includes movement of your body, proper nutrition and
regular health care.
•
Sexual –pursuing knowledge to make informed and respectful decisions
about your sexual self, promoting a culture of consent and clear communication and acceptance of limits.
•
Social – developing a sense of connection and belonging through healthy relationships.
•
Spiritual – understanding we each 昀椀nd spiritual well-being in different ways.
