t the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, our
mission extends beyond training future physicians — we
are shaping the next generation of healthcare leaders who
will drive innovation, improve patient care, and address
the evolving needs of our diverse community. Graduate
medical education (GME) is at the heart of this mission,
serving as the bridge between medical school and independent practice,
ensuring that residents and fellows receive the highest level of clinical
training and mentorship.
Our commitment to undergraduate medical education (UME) lays the
foundation for lifelong learning, preparing students with the knowledge,
skills, and compassion necessary to succeed in residency and beyond. Our
Liaison Commission on Medical Education (LCME), Accreditation Council
for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and Accreditation Council for
Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) accreditations are a testament
to our high standards of medical education. In addition to fostering an
environment of academic excellence and continuous improvement, our
faculty, residents, fellows, and students are contributing to groundbreaking
research that advances medical science and enhances patient outcomes.
Still, meeting the healthcare needs of our growing and diverse community
is the driving force behind all of our efforts. Within the UNLV Health clinics,
community hospitals, and other primary and specialty care centers, our
residents and fellows are receiving world-class training and delivering
compassionate, high-quality care to thousands of patients each year. Their
impact on Southern Nevada is profound, addressing physician shortages,
improving healthcare access, and strengthening the overall well-being of our
region.
Together, education, research, patient care, and community engagement
form the pillars of our mission, ensuring that we not only educate physicians,
but also elevate healthcare in Southern Nevada. As the former chair of the
department of psychiatry and behavioral health, and most recently the
vice dean of clinical affairs, I am grateful for the opportunity to continue
contributing to this noble mission as the interim dean of the Kirk Kerkorian
School of Medicine at UNLV.
